COMMMUNITY SUPPORTED CHARLES IVES

ON GOING EXPLANATION OF COMMUNITY SUPPORTED CHARLES IVES

In one sense, COMMUNITY SUPPORTED CHARLES IVES is just a venue for all the things I do and have done.

In one sense, COMMUNITY SUPPORTED CHARLES IVES is an artistic process website: a place where you can see how even the silliest ideas come to be and what that process entails. At the moment, the place you'll see the process most is on the COMEDY page. In the next couple of months to a year, you'll notice the jokes take form; you'll notice stylistic this and that, etc. This is, in part, because stand-up comedy is a long term project, the final product being...a good 45 minute set. At the moment, I have a pretty good fifteen minute set. A good 45 minute set is something that happens to most comedians after about 10 years. I've been at it for a little over 2 years.

In one sense, COMMUNITY SUPPORTED CHARLES IVES is a writing exercise. At the moment, it seems that I write alot of the things that there are to write: songs, jokes, aphorisms, recipes (which is like technical writing), sports articles, cartoons, poetry, children's stories, computer programs...

In one sense, COMMUNITY SUPPORTED CHARLES IVES is about volume. I've always secretly dreamed of having the biggest pile of oeuvre ever. Accordingly, I'm trying to compile all the things I've made over the years. In a sense, this site is just a more public container for everything I've ever done.

In one sense, COMMUNITY SUPPORTED CHARLES IVES is a place for OUR ideas: for not only my ideas but for yours as well. Intellectual contributions of any kind are welcome. Part of what I see for the future of COMMUNITY SUPPORTED CHARLES IVES is a sort of idea factory. E.G. if a member has an idea, I will make it.

On the other hand, eventually, I'd like to have a page filled with only the naked ideas I generate, ideas which others should feel free to take and turn into something...and submit to me for posting on the site...or just make and tell us about it...or show us...etc.

In fact, I'm looking for competent individuals whose only deficiency is an inability to come up with ideas...like the skilled artist who would be more prolific with his painting if he just had more ideas...and why not use mine or other members.

I'm also, of course, looking for those whose only deficiency is an inability to make an idea into something.

I'm also, of course, looking for any type of person interested in a more selfless pursuit of making a ton of stuff.

I find that many artists are reluctant to use others ideas. This, I think, is a silly habit and one that exposes the uselessness of our current and juvenile obsession with originality. The point is to be making 'art.' Otherwise, it's just some kind of greedy egotism: a selfishness that needs a work of art to be 'mine.'

In part, the virtuoso is the kind of person who could act as our model in one sense: an extremely skilled artist uninterested in composition yet still essential to the composition process. Somone like a concert pianist. Someone interested mostly in interpretation. A scholar.

Accordingly, I'm looking for both 'scholars' and idea people to engage the pursuit of the biggest pile of respectable oeuvre ever.
